Why do famous people die when they get old or kill themselves?

I’d like to take a moment to explain the phenomenon of celebrities dying at an increasing rate. Indeed, it seems that with each passing year we lose a greater number of our pop-culture icons than ever before.

Many have sought something to blame this on. Some simply marvel at the trend, dumbfounded and awestruck by the long list of larger than life individuals who are no longer with us. Why is this happening to us? Others have even hypothesized that it’s a sort of cosmic punishment for the moral decay our society is percieved to be in.

The truth is, approximately one average human lifespan ago, we decided to start making everybody famous.

So far I’ve managed to completely ignore the Olympics. I’m supposed to go to a medal ceremony next week, but I’ll pretend I’m visiting another city for that and escape back to the suburbs.
